The entire family LOVES this mill…best money I ever spent. It’s so easy the baby can grind oats –and my 5 and 7 yr old love to grind the grain for pancakes, bread and pasta.

This hand grind mill is very good. Grinds hard wheat with ease and aplomb! With some of the accessories to make it even better, it is a joy to use; fast and easy. I do notice that the grinding plate will wander (open up) a bit with use, so every few minutes, I double check the setting and snug it back down a bit, if needed.
It’s a high quality, heavy duty tool, and looks like it will last me the rest of my life. I’ll be able to hand it down to my niece some day. If you cook lots of grains, as I do, it is a good investment.

Ground 4 pounds of organic red wheat berries yesterday and ended up with 12 cups of the most awesome whole wheat flour ever. The grinder worked without any problems, though it is a bit of a workout (but it’s so worth it). Made 3 of the best loaves of whole wheat bread I have ever made. The best things about this grinder is it is made in the U.S.A. (Yeah!), and it is very well built. I look forward to using it for many years to come.

I just ground my first batch of flour in my brand new Country Living Grain Mill. After assembling the mill it appears very well built. I mounted the mill in my basement to some exposed construction. Without changing the factory adjustment of the mill plates i was able to grind enough flour for a batch of bread in about 10 minutes. the flour was nice and fine and made great bread. I actualy thought cranking the mill was fun.

I am from the UK and will be taking mine back home with me in July.
I fitted a used $50 1/3 horse power motor on a 1 inch plank via a central pulley system and it works great. Probably needs a more powerful motor as I have to give the wheel a tug to get it going on the finest grind.
Made kibbled barley and ground other oily seeds such as flax, millet, sunflower and poppy. This did clog the mill after a while so need to mix these types of grain with the harder wheat.
The proof was great bread.

We have used all different models of grinders in our 50 years of marriage, but the Country Living Grain Mill is our favorite and we don’t see us buying any other grinder. We are in our 70’s and 80’s now, so our children purchased the motor attachment for us . OMGOODNESS. What a blessing. I Ground 5 1/2 cups of hard red wheat this morning and it took about 20 minutes, which means yummy bread much quicker for all of the family. Thank you Country Living.

I’ve been trying to recreate a Latvian “saldskāb maize”, a wonderful sourdough rye bread. This past summer I managed to get through customs a bag of flour from my favorite Latvian bakery and opening it at home realized it’s nothing like anything I can buy here in the states.
My first trip from rye berries to flour was incredible. Kind of like eating truly free range eggs for the first time. It was fresh, it had flavor, why are they selling commercial flour? Why are we buying it?
So, keeping up with replenishing my starter the best I can do is two loaves a week. I’ve got the taste, got the crust, the texture is good, but I’d like it to rise more. Trying to find a balance in rye/wheat proportions and trying to find the right grind, sharpness of grains vs. gluten.
Fortunately over the years I’ve only baked one loaf that was inedible. I love the experiments. Any hints towards the “perfect loaf” would be appreciated.
The Country Living mill has rekindled an excitement in baking better bread.

It’s sturdy and works well. It is somewhat slow, but that’s to be expected.

This is our first grain mill to own. Set up and assembly was easy for my husband to do. We ground our first flour using hard white wheat and the flour was lovely and fine. I made bread with it a day later and the bread was so much better with the fresh flour than when I make bread with flour bought at the grocery.
We elected to start with a manually operated mill and no additional handle attachment. Grinding the first flour was easy, so I think we will leave ours as a manually operated mill for now.
Our order was promptly processed and arrived in good condition. Thanks.

Let me start by saying that I have not used any other grain mills, so I have no comparables. That being said, I can’t imagine a hand powered mill being much easier/more effective than this one.
I used the power bar extension and I think it helped a lot. It extends the leverage quite a bit and makes for very easy wheel turning.
I ground white wheat berries and the resulting flour was pretty fine. I used the default setting it came set to and that was about perfect for bread making.
I really like the quality of flour this mill produced, appreciate knowing that my sourdough bread is three ingredients (water, salt, ground wheat), and am not going back to grocery store flour, even though it’s much easier to procure.

I bought this grain mill in August of 2015 and I would grind the wheat by hand for about a year and then I purchase the motorized kit a year later. I now have gotten lazy and just fill up the hopper with the wheat and go about my day, checking to see if the hopper is empty.
I started out with an old grain mill I built from a kit and used for 25 years and purchased a few others that I passed on to my children. I have used the Diamant grain mill and a GrainMaker and I consider these two as the Cadillac’s of grain mills and I would compare the Country Living Grain Mill equal to these two grain mills on performance, quality and reliability. The Diamant and GrainMaker were out of my price range but I still wanted a grain mill that would perform as well.
The best feature of the Country Living Grain Mill are the grinding plates. After two years of grinding wheat I still show no wear on these plates.

I earned a living at 6.00 an hour. A friend educated me on survival, or call it eating well while in poverty. Yes, I scrimped and saved for the Country Living Mill. Used it regularly along with 45 lbs buckets of hard red wheat, other grains and legumes as part of eating well on low cost groceries for eight years. No regrets. I now keep it as back up in my kitchen. There were times I had no money for food. My friend and this mill saved my life.

Amazing!
Super Fast Shipping – Great Packaging – Top Notch Customer Service.
When I placed my order I didn’t realize the grinding wheel came with it and ordered an extra – Amy Williams saw this And sent me an email to confirm my order and actually helped take the extra order off and saved me money! Thank you for that Amy!
The product worked like a charm – milled up 7 cups of Wheat Berrie and it was a workout ….but loved every second of it.
Very pleased with this company and their product and customer service, keep up the great work!

I was able to read the instructions and get the mill together correctly. The instructions mentioned an enclosed wrench, but there was none. I had my own wrench so that was OK. I am very happy.

I am always so happy to “buy American” because I know the quality will be top notch, and I wasn’t disappointed.
The shipping was prompt and it came BEAUTIFULLY packaged to spite the hefty weight. Quality was excellent. I’ve assembled, read all the instructions, but not used yet.
Also got the peanut butter attachments since I had everything else!
Taking a bread-making class from “Homestead Family” on YouTube and worth the time and fee as it shows how to make bread perfect every time using your FRESH milled flour (it’s different from usual). Also got great GMO-free Organic grain from FoodToLive.com (even have “Ancient” grains).
So I feel like I’ve hit the 5* Trifecta!

I had bought a cheapish ($80) on Amazon and it broke after a month. This is a heavy duty workhorse. Is suspect it will go for generations. My first run was perfect and I am excited to use the corn and bean auger to make my own bean flour. This was certainly an investment but in the long run will be more economical than anything else I could purchase and it’s made in the US! As a side note I ordered this Friday morning and UPS delivered it Saturday afternoon 30 hours after I placed my order! Granted I live in washington but I was blown away at how crazy fast the shipping was. Thank you!

I’ve been wanting this grinder for almost a decade and for whatever reasons have not made it a priority expenditure even though I’ve been sitting on hundreds of pounds of storable wheat for almost the same amount of time. One reason behind waiting to purchase is I didn’t want to settle for less, and I am thoroughly satisfied. I would leave a long review but I haven’t had it for a long time so all I can say is I can’t wait to get the peanut butter accessory.

High quality. Very pleased to buy “American Made”. I did not mind having to wait for shipment delays. Well worth it! I’m new to grain grinding. We will enjoy this mill for years to come.

I first glimpsed the Country Living Grain Mill while shopping for a food dehydrator. I had been grinding grain by hand for a couple of years with a very basic mill and the Country Living Mill was really attractive with a hand thrown pottery receptacle for receiving the freshly ground flour. The developer, Jack Jenkins was on hand to explain the basic function of this beautiful mill and I was sold. The large flywheel made grinding by hand effortless and provided a little bit of exercise. Jack had an ingenious method for grinding at home by using one of his sons and a bicycle but that was not possible in my kitchen so for many years I did my grinding by hand. Later I bought a small motor from Country Living Grain Mill and it has been a positive (if a bit noisy) time saver. You can buy replacement grinding plates and augers to grind larger grains or coffee and all instructions are available on YouTube. I have been using my Country Living Grain Mill several times a week since 1983 and it has never failed me. I highly recommend this excellent mill whether you use it by hand or motorize it.
